Class 1 June 9 2010

We learned the names of the notes that the different strings play.
The string closest to the ceiling plays a G, the next is a C, E, then an A closest to the floor.

Go here to hear what the strings sound like:

Also here is a virtual piano for those that don't have one:

We looked at the C and G7 chords in class try the F chord too!

Strum all of the strings for these chords. For a C chord put your finger on the third fret of the A string (fourth from the ceiling), for the G7 put a finger on the 2nd fret of the C string, first fret of the E string and 2nd fret of the A string. For an F chord put a finger on the 2nd fret of the G string and the 1st fret of the E string.

1. Mary Had a Little Lamb:

Note: We played the melody on one string using 4 notes on the C string: Open C, D (second fret), E (4th fret) and G (7th fret). There are two chords in the song C and G7. You can also just play the roots of the chords instead of the full chords. The roots are a C note and a G note. I suggest listening to the recording a lot to hear where the chords change. Practice along with the recording or just listen. Have fun!

2. Lion Sleeps Tonight: We'll work on this next class. The chords are C, F, and G7. Again you can outline these chords by playing just the roots: C note, F note, G note.

For you more ambitious folks try and pick out the melody!
