In this class we looked at the basics of reading music. When we read music the printed music tells us A) which notes to play as well as B) when to play the notes and for how long.

A) We looked at two systems that show which notes to play:

1. STANDARD NOTATION:




2. Tablature:

Both of the above examples show a C major scale

B) When to play notes and for how long: 

We learned about time signatures and bars. We also looked at different note values. Whole, Half, Quarter and Eighth notes:


We used eighth notes in pairs of two which looks like this:

We read through two songs: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Aura Lee.
